Marilyn is a native Oregonian and moved to Southern California to enjoy the sunshine and perfect 70-degree weather. She has an affinity for anything Art, be it collecting, creating, or admiring. She’s inspired by like-minded people and enjoys the process of imagining and producing art, be it her own or someone else’s. This love of creating brought her to Bassett in 2006 and she has enjoyed her career helping clients create beautiful homes for their families. Marilyn wants her clients to be happy with their makeovers and prides herself on her high quality of customer service. The icing on her cake is having clients return to begin the design process for new rooms or even new homes, she loves picking up where they left off!

The Abbott’s Living Room

Mrs Abbott had a large, empty living room in which she wanted to utilize an open seating arrangement.  When we came for the initial housecall we measured the space, talked about the artwork and collectables that she wanted to showcase.  Having these discussions in our clients’ home allows us to get a read on what is important to our client and take in to account the atmosphere and personality of the space.  The Abbott’s living room has lots of natural light and a beautiful view to both their garden and pool.  We wanted to take advantage of these elements and provide a comfortable, elegant space to entertain, relax, and just enjoy their home.

Inspiration

Mrs Abbott found her inspiration after looking through design books and magazines.  She knew she wanted lots of texture, flexible seating for at least six, and a touch of blue.

THE BIG REVEAL...

At her reveal we presented her with the flexible, open-seating arrangement she’d been dreaming of.  We included a sofa, four chairs, an ottoman, and a couple small accent tables.  The sofa in a neutral-colored cream works to keep the room light while the indigo pillows offer definition to the sofa.  We wanted two different sets of chairs; a pair in taupe with similar tailored lines as the sofa and a wood-framed set with a beautiful indigo fabric.  A leather ottoman in the perfect caramel color to coordinate with the woodwork provides extra seating, encourages up-feet, and ties everything together perfectly. We added the “wow factor” with additional layering – a splash of color with an area rug and coral inspired pillows.  The artwork and accessories were placed so that they can be enjoyed and appreciated.
